“At last”, shouted Toad, “my seeds have stopped being afraid to grow!” “And now you will have a nice garden too,” said Frog. “Yes,” said Toad, “but you were right, Frog. It was very hard work.”
The above was taken from one of my favorite Frog and Toad stories, The Garden by Arnold Lobel. Gardening takes a lot of hard work and a lot of patience; however, it sure can be a lot of fun. I have enjoyed creating a beautiful garden with my little boy.
My son took an interest in gardening with me at a very early age. I remember him watering our garden every day with his little blue watering can and helping his dad and I with the yard work. He also loved to dig in the dirt for worms. We started with a small garden and planted herbs and strawberries. Desert gardening can be challenging so we started out small because we didn’t know how everything would do. We later added green beans, zucchini, chives, more herbs and red
Even if you have a small area in your yard for a garden or even can plant some veggies or herbs in small pots or containers, it’s a really great project and learning experience for kids.
So taking Frog’s advice after you plant your seeds; “Leave them alone for a few days. Let the sun shine on them, Let the rain fall on them. Soon your seeds will start to grow!” Happy Gardening!!
